I've got so much out of this forum and Shanerd's posting about making $4300 in a few days inspired me to "give back" as well.

Let's talk about your USP or Unique Selling Position.

But before that, let's dispell a myth.

MYTH: To ensure success, a newbie should take an existing successful product or idea and replicate or improve it.

That is not entirely true. There's nothing wrong with pursuing an already successful genre, but replicating it will ensure failure, not success. Your product will only dilute the marketplace. And as others duplicate, the idea will become so watered down, the returns will eventually become paltry.

This is where your USP comes in. All marketers need to determing what their unique selling position is.

Step 1: How do I determine my USP?

First ask yourself 3 simple questions:

1. What are the main benefits of my product or service?
2. What are the main benefits of my competitor's product or service?
3. In what way, are my benefits unique from the competition?

If you're product or service has unique features, skip to Step 3.  Otherwise, continue to step 2.
