You spend weeks developing a site full of valuable content. Finally, you complete the site, and apply for your Google AdSense account. A few days later, you find that you are accepted, and you immediately get the AdSense code on your pages – in the spot that you’ve lovingly saved just for Google. You heavily promote your site, and things are going well – and then it happens….you get the dreaded letter from Google.
Maybe Google has detected ‘fraudulent’ clicks, or maybe they feel that you have violated their terms of service in some other way. It doesn’t matter what they think at this point – your site has been banned, and your AdSense revenue is gone! Getting Google to reconsider is next to impossible, so the easiest way to handle the situation is not to find yourself in it. Avoid getting banned by Google!
Start by making absolutely sure that you never click on your own links – no matter how tempting the offers are. Google ads print the URL in the ads. Simply type that website address into your browser window if you are interested in what the advertisement offers, but by all means – do not click that link! Don’t have your friends or family members visiting your site daily to click those links either…Google WILL figure it out!
Make sure that you read the terms of service thoroughly. Google simply tells you in the TOS what is acceptable and what is not. Just follow the rules. If you are unsure, contact Google with your question, and wait for an answer…and when in doubt, don’t. Also make sure that you do not change the AdWords code in anyway, other than with the color palettes that are available within your AdSense account. Avoid sharing your revenue information and your click information with other people. Google frowns on this practice. Keep your information private.
Other practices that Google frowns on include putting AdSense code on thank you pages, registration pages, or pages that do not contain real content. You are also prohibited from displaying AdSense ads on pages that contain content advertising from Google’s competitors – such as Yahoo Publishers Network ads.
Make sure that your content is suitable for Google. You only have to be approved once by Google to be eligible for the AdSense program, and then you are free to use the ad code on all of your websites. Don’t use one site that meets the Google requirements, and then put the code on a site that you know Google will not approve of. Google may not just ban the offending site – they may choose to ban the offending account holder altogether!
Again, it is very important that you read and follow the terms of service. Google does monitor the sites that are registered in the Google AdSense program – and they ban sites on a daily basis. Make sure that you are following the rules. Don’t make the mistake of thinking that Google won’t catch violations on your website. No matter how big your site is, or how small it is – Google is watching, and once you’ve been banned, you will have to jump through a lot of hoops to get back into Google’s good graces!
