Profiting from Google AdSense all comes down to CTR, or click-through-rate. This is how often people are clicking on your Google Ads, in relation to how many page views you are getting from visitors. A low AdSense CTR means that you aren't making enough money. You might not be making any money. A high CTR means that you are doing very well. Remember - no clicks, no money.
For a higher CTR, choose high paying keywords, and then make sure that your page content is rich with those keywords. Don't just use the keywords repeatedly for the sake of using them. Make sure your content makes sense, and that it is useful to your site visitors. The more relevant your keywords are, the more relevant your Google ads will be on that page, which will increase your AdSense CTR.
Make sure that your Google ads appear on your page without the need to scroll down. In newspaper terms, this is referred to as 'above the fold.' Since there are no folds on a webpage, we just use the term 'without scrolling.' You do not need to advertise the fact that your Google AdSense ads are ads. First, Google already does that. Second, you want the ads to blend into the content on your page. People are numb to advertisements, but when the ads match the look and feel of your site, you will achieve a higher AdSense CTR.
Don't crowd your AdSense ads. Leave a little space around them, so that they are more noticeable. Ads generally do best in the skyscraper layout, on the right hand side of the page. Some prefer the left side of the page. Some people even like to put the AdSense listings at the beginning of the first paragraph on the page. But you should experiment by trying the ads out in different locations on the page, using different layouts, to find out which layout and position gives you the highest AdSense CTR. You can track this by using the channels options in the administration area at Google AdSense.
Remove all outbound links from your pages where Google AdSense appears. In fact, cut down on the number of all types of links on those pages, except for your Google AdSense links. Don't put other advertisers on the same pages as your Google AdSense ads if you can avoid it. Leaving visitors with fewer places to go will increase your Google AdSense CTR dramatically.
Increasing your AdSense CTR isn't hard. Usually it is just a question of making some minor changes. Pay attention to your Google AdSense reports, and you will see when changes need to be made. Increasing your traffic will also help improve your AdSense CTR.
